City of Nuremberg: Urban tree care
In partnership with Humberg Baumschutz, we installed 2 sensors each at different depths (30 cm and 70 cm) on various city trees in Nuremberg.
The goal of the pilot was to monitor the water supply to trees at various depths and to reconcile and optimize watering rates and times with real-time readings.
One afternoon we deployed the sensors on 4 trees and activated the radio link; the data was immediately visible in the dashboard.
Very quickly it was realized that - although the irrigation was carried out as planned - the water does NOT reach the root of the tree. This both damages the tree and wastes water without effect. Irrigation schedules need to be adjusted.
